Animal science and Fisheries

Animal science and Fisheries

Program duration: 4 years (8 semesters)

Program description:

Doctoral students will gain specialist knowledge and skills, including state-of-the-art techniques and research methodologies that can be used in PhD projects. The program consists of compulsory courses and electives, including practical classes, in basic and applied sciences, as well as other types of courses that promote effective learning and the acquisition of knowledge and skills.

The study program covers the following major research areas and scientific disciplines: genomics and proteomics in farm animals; improvement in livestock production in view of management conditions; production technologies, evaluation and shaping of the quality of animal raw materials to produce safe and healthy foods; nutritional strategies to improve animal productivity and welfare, and modify the quality of food products; aquaculture and fisheries; biotechnology in fish protection, restoration and restitution. The study program offers a wide range of courses addressing interdisciplinary research problems, and focuses on encouraging doctoral students to develop their creativity, including creative problem solving, innovation and commercialization of research results.

Career opportunities:

The graduates of doctoral programs have advanced and specialist knowledge and skills in the fields of Animal Husbandry and Fisheries. They can find employment, as leaders and managers, in different sectors of the economy, including specialist companies and laboratories providing services in the sectors of agriculture, agri-food processing and animal breeding. The graduates are also prepared to pursue their professional career in academia and research institutions in Poland and abroad.
