From 4th November to 4th December 2024, Mr. Patryk Adamski, a second-year PhD student at the Doctoral School of the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn, in the discipline: food and nutrition technology, completed a research internship at the University of Turin, Faculty of Veterinary Sciences, Institute of Food Safety and Hygiene. The internship was carried out within the framework of the InTraDo project funded by the NAWA STER-Internationalization of Doctoral Schools program, funded by the National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA).
During the internship, Mr. Patryk Adamski focused on research on biofilms of food-related pathogens such as Listeria monocytogenes and food spoilage bacteria such as Pseudomonas spp.
During the internship, the doctoral student had the opportunity to work with prominent specialists in the field of food microbiology and use the modern research infrastructure of the University of Turin. As a result, he expanded his knowledge and gained practical skills in modern biofilm research methods, which he plans to apply in his dissertation on the influence of physico-chemical factors on antibiotic resistance and virulence of L. monocytogenes strains.
The implementation of the internship also enabled the development of the doctoral student’s social skills, such as cooperation in an international scientific environment and organization of work in a research team.
