We are pleased to offer an English language course focused on scientific writing for doctoral candidates – now also available to PhD students from the ChallengeEU alliance. The course is already listed in the ChallengeEU database.

Who is this course for?
This course is ideal if you are:

• A doctoral candidate working in computer science, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, robotics, or related fields
• Writing or planning to write scientific texts in English (e.g., conference papers, journal articles, essays)
• At an English proficiency level of B2 or higher

Course focus
The course centers on developing skills for writing scientific and technical texts in English. Participants will work on their own writing projects with guidance from professional language instructors from TipTop English. The program will be tailored to the participants’ needs.

• Format: Online via Zoom
• Duration: 10 sessions
• Schedule: Thursdays, 9:00–10:30 a.m.
  • Exceptions:
    • First session: Tuesday, July 1st, 4:00–5:30 p.m.
    • Week 31 session: Tuesday, July 29th, 4:00–5:30 p.m.
    • HSO colloquium on July 17th: This session will be rescheduled (date to be confirmed)
• Group size: Maximum 15 participants
• Cost: Free of charge
• Assessment: No final exam
• Certificate: Issued for active participation (max. one missed session)

Important conditions

• A placement test via Zoom with TipTop English is required before the course starts.
• Active participation in both the test and the course is mandatory.
• Please note: Failure to comply with the participation rules may result in exclusion from future language programs organized by the HSO Graduate Academy.
