International exchange at the UWM Doctoral School is gaining momentum. MA Klaudia Oczachowska, a third-year doctoral student, recently returned from her first internship abroad, and from October 1 to 31, 2024, participated in the International Mobility of Doctoral Students carried out within the framework of the InTraDo project funded by the STER- Internationalization of Doctoral Schools program, National Agency for Academic Exchange. Klaudia Oczachowska conducts research related to ancient history – specifically, the formation of the image of Alexander the Great and the subsequent reception of the image of this figure. She is currently preparing her doctoral dissertation under the supervision of Dr. Miron Wolny, Prof. UWM – a historian of antiquity. The topic pursued in the doctorate is stuck in the study of the Hellenistic world, which required specific cooperation with institutions dedicated to this purpose – hence the natural choice fell on Athens, where during her internship the doctoral student conducted research work at the École française d’Athènes. This provided, first of all, the opportunity to further develop her scientific apparatus, while at the same time her stay in Athens provided another chance to confront numerous iconographic sources depicting images of Alexander the Great, or which are testimonies of the Hellenistic period. Certainly, the research activities undertaken in Athens on the image of the Macedonian, will promote further development of the work aimed at finalizing the doctorate. Besides, during her internship in Athens, the doctoral student was mentored and supported by the Polish Archaeological Institute of Athens and the Athens Institute for Education and Research, which is of considerable importance for the formation of the process of acquiring experience and international cooperation, which is the essence of education within the framework of the Doctoral School.
